[datacenter] Generators
We run a small ISP in New Mexico, and have decided to acquire a generator to
add increased reliability. Our landlord enlisted a contractor to make a
proposal, which they did.
The proposal was for a generator powered by natural gas, fed by the regional
utility, with no local reservoir.
I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the use of utility-supplied gas
instead of locally-stored propane or diesel. My initial thoughts are that
locally stored fuel would be better since in some types of disasters the
utility might turn off the gas supply to prevent fires. The contractor argues
that the local tank will run out eventually but the utility supplied gas would
run forever.
Any strong opinions one way or the other?
Thanks,
Mark
