[ih] NCP and TCP implementations
The 516/316 was a typical minicomputer circa 1968.? Alex McKenzie
shortly before had evaluated some minicomputers for another possible
project.? For choosing a minicomputer for the IMP, that prior evaluation
was reviewed, and the 516/316 was suitable for our IMP design in terms
of speed and memory size.? It was convenient that the DDP division of
Honeywell was close to BBN.? I don't remember if there being a hardened
516 version matter a lot, but Frank Heart was very happy to be able to
use the 516s for the first few IMPs.? What we told ARPA about the 516
choice is on appendix pages D-1 to D-3 at
https://walden-family.com/bbn/arpanet-prop-ocr.pdf as well as at other
places in the proposal, e.g., the timing calculations.
