My well water is loaded with iron. It is yellowish coming from the tap, and
turns orange when it sits for a couple of days. And I get no dichromate

And, to mention another factor that might increase the likelihood of stain,
but doesn't: I develop my prints in horribly dirty dichromate-loaded water.
You can't even see through this stuff. Used dichromate waste is such a
tremendous hassle to deal with, that I put it off changing water for as long
as possible.
